The inspiration behind this piece is women, the choices we make in life, and how we overcome hardships.  When looking at the vibrant colors of this painting, one may assume that it is an uplifting piece. However, the Red Lady is the opposite.  She is dark and melancholy.

The Red Lady has snakes within her body which represent the missteps that I, as a woman, have made in my life.  The cross on her neck represents faith which helped me overcome my challenges.  The spiderweb symbolizes when I felt trapped in my own thoughts and could not escape. The baby with purple heart represents purity and my aspirations. Her tilted head represents balance.  The base that is holding her body is embellished with green leaves to inspire hope, renewal, and revival.  At some point in life, we go through some sort of difficulty - that's life!  How we choose to escape the spiderweb is key to freeing ourselves.
