The inspiration behind this painting was the birth of my beloved daughter. She altered my life and placed me on a divine path that has brought me such happiness.
The "Remember Me?" on the mother's forehead describes how I had forgotten myself and gave my all to my child. At times I felt trapped between the new life I had been introduced to as a mother and the life I was accustomed to in the past. Another sign reads "The average mom spends 116 minutes on laundry and only 7 minutes on her hair". This clipping is from a parents magazine that I read constantly just to learn and stay informed. Fashion magazines and things unrelated to parenthood were phased out of my life, but the loads of laundry waited for me to take action everyday. I unquestionably chose laundry and motherhood over anything that was non-essential.
In 2008, Motherhood won 3rd Place in the Intermediate Painter category at The National Arts Program hosted by The City of Atlanta.
