This painting is from an old collection which was painted in 2001 for a show at the Fish Bone Gallery. This is when my style of using lines and creating a 3D type of illusion with acrylic paint was born.
Kemekem is a word meaning for freshly mown grass in Ethiopia. It is also a term for beautiful, well combed Afro. Kemekem reminds me of the love song I used to listen to back home in Ethiopia by Muluken Melesse and Maritu Legese.
